Firefighters Rescue Fawns Stuck In Canal

The two small fawns were reported to be stuck in the canal on Monday evening.

ISLIP, NY - Islip firefighters rescued two small fawns stuck in a canal in Islip on Monday evening.

The Islip Fire Department responded to the Middle Bayberry canal after receiving a call that the fawns were trapped at about 6:43 p.m.

One of the fawns got itself out of the water before firefighters arrived, but the other was still having trouble getting to shore.

An Islip fire boat, with help from civilian boats, were able to corral the animal until it was ultimately able to get itself out of the water by using a boat ramp.

Both animals appeared to have been unharmed.
