Fugitive Gang Member Arrested in Suffolk County: Police

The 26-year-old is wanted in two states, police say.

WEST ISLIP, NY — A 26-year-old fugitive gang member was arrested in West Islip after he crashed his car while fleeing officers Thursday night, Suffolk Police said.

According to police, Third Precinct Gang Unit police officers were looking for Jeremy Jones when the officers observed him on Norma Avenue in West Islip at approximately 9:25 p.m. When Jones, who lives on Norma Avenue, observed the officers, he fled in a vehicle, police said.

The officers pursued Jones, who then crashed his vehicle into a retaining wall on Southside Avenue and fled on foot, police said. He was apprehended a short time later.

Jones was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident with property damage, resisting arrest, unlawful possession of marijuana and fugitive from justice.

Jones is wanted by the Dimmit County Sheriff’s Office in Texas on a drug-related charge and by the Mississippi Department of Corrections on a parole violation, police said.

Jones was held overnight at the Third Precinct and was scheduled to be arraigned Friday at First District Court in Central Islip.
