Islip Community Bands Together For Project Lifesaver

Project Lifesaver is an effort between the police and the Alzheimer's Disease Resource Center using transmitters to locate individuals.

From The Town of Islip: Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter, along with state and local officials, attended the Alzheimer’s Disease Resource Center, Inc.’s Project Lifesaver event recently. Project Lifesaver is a collaborative effort between the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office and the Alzheimer’s Disease Resource Center, that uses transmitter bracelets to locate individuals who have wandered from home. The transmitters work through frequencies that are paired with tracking bracelets, enabling officials to find someone within 13 1/2 minutes in Suffolk County, versus what could otherwise take weeks without the device. The Pilot’s Club of Sayville presented the Resource Center with a check for more than $6,000, which will provide 11 waiting families with bracelets. Each bracelet costs approximately $300.“Alzheimer’s disease affects thousands of families right here in Suffolk County,” said Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter.

“This innovative bracelet will provide peace of mind to families, knowing that help for their loved one is only minutes away,” added Supervisor Carpenter.
