Islip Fire Department 'Rescues' American Flag Found Buried in Snow Outside McDonald's
"We could not sit idly by as Old Glory laid limp an lifeless along the snow packed ground,"
ISLIP, NY - Members of the Islip Fire Department "rescued" an American flag that fell and got buried in the snow during the storm on Thursday at Islip McDonald's.
According to the fire department, the flag at McDonald's located on 107 Main Street was not properly secured for the snowstorm and high wind conditions.
Members were alerted by members of the community that the flag was seen strewn about the road and lawn after it fell off the pole.

"We could not sit idly by as Old Glory laid limp an lifeless along the snow packed ground," a post on the department's Facebook page read. "Our standby crews immediately on hearing of this disrespect felt a duty to act and responded over to secure her."
The flag was then taken to the firehouse to receive a proper 13 fold ceremony.

Afterwards, Chief of Department William Moon received a personal phone call from the owner of the Islip McDonald's who thanked Chief Moon and the members of the department for helping secure and safeguard his flag.
The Islip McDonald's was also in hot water recently for hanging the flag upside down.
Moon says he is personally investigating the two incidents.
