Islip To Honor Those Affected By Opioid Crisis This Week

Main Street businesses and town hall will be lit purple this week in honor of National Recovery Month.

ISLIP, NY - The town of Islip will be going purple this week to show their support for those who have been affected by addiction and the opioid/heroin crisis.

On Thursday, Sept. 26, stores along Main Street in Islip as well as Islip Town Hall will be lit with purple lights in honor of National Recovery Month.

In addition, Islip Supervisor Angie Carpenter, former News 12 Long Island anchorman Drew Scott, and Kathy Koenigsdorf of the Jake K. Foundation will lead Islip Goes Purple (IGP) in front of Town Hall 655 Main Street starting at 4 p.m.

The special ceremony will demonstrate that the Islip community stands together, in memory of lives lost, those in recovery, those struggling and the local families affected.

The Town Hall Cupola will be illuminated in purple at 4:30 p.m.

The event is an inaugural event that will kick-off a Town-wide, month-long awareness campaign in September 2020.
