Islip Officials Break Ground on New Building at MacArthur Airport

The new state-of-the-art Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting Building is expected to be ready by 2018.

Islip, NY - Islip officials recently announced that they broke ground on a new state-of-the-art Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting Building at Long Island MacArthur Airport in Ronkonkoma last week.

The new 21,000 square-foot facility will cost a total of $12.5 million to construct and is expected to be completed by the spring of 2018.

“This is an incredible day for the Town of Islip and for Long Island MacArthur Airport,” Islip Supervisor Angie Carpenter said. "This new, state-of-the-art Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting facility is another exciting step forward in the future of Long Island MacArthur Airport.”

The new facility will consist of five bays. One will have a drive-through for quicker response times. In addition, the new facility will have a state-of-the-art foam re-filling station.

“The Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting facility will meet the needs of larger, more modern jets serving Long Island MacArthur Airport," Shelley LaRose-Arken, Commissioner, Long Island MacArthur Airport said. "The airport is a regional asset, and this new facility adds to the overall value of the airport to the local community and traveling public."
