Islip Teen Ran From Officers After Leaving Scene Of Crash: PD

The 19-year-old and her passenger both tried to run away after she fled from officers and crashed into another car, police say.

NORTH BABYLON, NY - An Islip teen was charged with fleeing from an officer after leaving the scene of a crash in North Babylon on Sunday night, according to Suffolk Police.

Keyanna Hagood, 19, was driving a 1999 Hyundai Elantra eastbound on the Sunrise Highway Service Road when a First Precinct officer in a patrol car tried to initiate a traffic stop for inadequate headlights at 7:20 p.m., police said.

The Elantra sped away from the officer and crashed a short time later on Sunrise Highway Service Road near Lotus Street, police said.

Hagood and a passenger in the car, 22-year-old Christopher Bonacorsi, fled the scene on foot, police said.

Officers found and arrested the two a short time later in the backyard of a home on Freedom Street in North Babylon, according to police.

Hagood was charged with third degree fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident with property damage and third degree criminal trespass.

Bonacorsi, of Shirley, was charged with two counts of third degree criminal trespass.

Hagood is being held overnight at the Fourth Precinct. Bonacorsi is being held overnight at the First Precinct.

Both are scheduled to be arraigned on Monday morning.
