Islip Terrace Man Killed in Crash on Southern State Parkway

The man was ejected from his car and then a tree fell on top of him Wednesday morning, police say.

WEST BABYLON, NY - A 37-year-old man was killed in a single-car crash on the Southern State Parkway Wednesday morning, State Police said.

Eugene Ellis, of Islip Terrace, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

According to police, Ellis was driving a Hyundai Sonata west on the Southern State, west of Exit 37-Belmont Avenue–when his car left the roadway, striking a light pole off the north shoulder and ejecting Ellis from the vehicle at about 4:19 a.m.

The car then struck a tree, which fell onto Ellis, police said.

Ellis was the only occupant of the vehicle. The accident investigation is ongoing.
