'Keep Islip Clean' Director Recognized Upon Retirement

Nancy Cochran, 'Keep Islip Clean' executive director, was recently recognized for her 16 years of service to the Town of Islip.

ISLIP, NY — A Town of Islip official was recognized recently for her professional career and years of dedicated service.

Nancy Cochran, "Keep Islip Clean" executive director, was recently recognized by Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter and Councilman James P. O’Connorby upon her retirement after nearly 16 years of service to the town.

Carpenter and O'Connorby presented Cochran with a citation of recognition for her achievements throughout her time with the town.

According to a press release, Cochran filled the role of executive director in May ,2006. Through her leadership, KIC has recruited and managed more than 4,000 volunteers each year, who participate in anti-litter, graffiti abatement, beautification, and recycling and educational programs, the release said.

“I’ve worked closely with Nancy on many KIC projects, including in her role as a board member of the Islip Town environmental council," Carpenter said. "Nancy raised the awareness of climate change early on, and through her work, gave today’s youth the knowledge and the tools to do their part in protecting the future of our environment. And for that, we are forever grateful."

During her tenure, Cocran expanded KIC programs and activities, including initiatives such as the Recycled Halloween Costumes contest. According to a press release, the event garners community interest and teaches the importance of up-cycling reusable materials.

“Nancy is a true pillar of inspiration within our community. Through her leadership, 'Keep Islip Clean' has become one of the most hands-on volunteer organizations in our town," said O'Connor. "Together with volunteers, Nancy leaves behind a legacy of cleaner and greener communities.”
