LONG ISLAND, NY — Spring weather is slowly creeping onto Long Island's view. As March ends and a new month begins, Long Islanders can expect typical "April showers" in this weekend's forecast, according to the National Weather Service.

Rain and high winds are expected starting Friday afternoon, and gusts as high as 26 mph.

Showers and thunderstorms will also grace Long Island on Saturday afternoon, with wind gusts as high as 36 mph.

Friday: A 30 percent chance of showers after 2pm. Increasing clouds, with a high near 51. South wind 7 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph.

Friday Night: Showers, mainly after 2am. Low around 48. Southwest wind 14 to 18 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Saturday: Showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 2pm. High near 59. Windy, with a southwest wind 22 to 26 mph, with gusts as high as 37 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Saturday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers before 8pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 37. Breezy.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 49. Breezy.

Sunday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 35.

Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 54.
