Local Man Starts Fundraiser For Firefighter Injured In House Fire

The firefighter of 24 years suffered from serious injuries while battling a Central Islip blaze.

A Central Islip resident recently started a fundraising campaign to help raise money for a firefighter who was injured in a fire last month.

Rich Kasin started a page on GoFundMe on behalf of Vinny Plotino, a volunteer firefighter of 24 years, who suffered from serious injuries while battling a fire on April 30.

Plotino responded to an electrical fire located on Bushwick Avenue in Central Islip and while performing his duties, he along with another firefighter fell through the stairs, according to the page.

Plotino was able to return home on May 8, but the road to recovery continues.

"The love and support he has received from his fellow brothers, friends, and family are very much appreciated," Kasin wrote on the page.

The page was created to help Plotino during his recovery process. The goal of the page was to raise $10,000 for Plotino and his family. Since the page was created on May 3, a total of $4,011 was raised.

"Donations will help pay for everyday expenses and bills," the page reads. "In addition, 10% of the total amount received will be donated to The Suffolk County Volunteer Firefighters Burn Center at Stony Brook."
