MacArthur Airport Marks First New Hangar In Decades

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Oct. 14 at the new 31,800 square foot hangar and office facility for Hawthorne Global Aviation Services.

Long Island MacArthur Airport formally commemorated the completion and opening of a new 31,800 square foot hangar and office facility for Hawthorne Global Aviation Services. This new addition brings Hawthorne’s commitment to MacArthur Airport to over 100,000 square feet of leasable space, and will enhance their service offering to Long Island’s aviation customers.

Hawthorne Global Aviation Services is a premier provider of general aviation services, with a rich history in the industry dating back to 1932. Hawthorne operates six-premier Fixed Based Operations (FBO) across the country, including its based at MacArthur Airport. Hawthorne also serves as a FAA Part 145 Repair Station, and provides aircraft charter and management through its sister company, ExcelAire.

“The new hangar space is a beautiful and welcoming showcase facility for Long Island and for visitors coming to Long Island,” said Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter. “The facility represents the Town’s vision for continuing enhancements to our Fixed Base Operators and general aviation space at MacArthur Airport,” she added.

Hawthorne has operated at MacArthur Airport for over 8 years, and began work on the new facility in Spring of 2019. The hangar was completed September 1, 2020, and the airport formally celebrated today with a ribbon cutting.

“Along with our commitment to developing commercial aviation service and our passenger Terminal, we also understand and appreciate the importance of our general aviation (GA) community,” said Airport Commissioner Shelley LaRose-Arken. “GA is a critical component of our airport. The new hangar represents GA’s real and potential growth and the benefits that brings to business on Long Island,” added Deputy Commissioner Rob Schneider.

The new hangar and office facility includes all of the convenient amenities and services that have made the current Hawthorne FBO a leading destination, including:

  • Professional concierge services; lodging, catering and ground transportation
  • Courtesy shuttle, crew and rental car availability
  • Spacious and comfortable passenger and pilot lounge
  • U.S. Customs Services (pre-notice required)
  • And all of the amenities our customers have grown to expect from Hawthorne
  • In addition, Hawthorne complies with the strict NATA Safety 1st guidelines for cleaning and sanitizing to keep our employees and customers safe during COVID-19.
