ISLIP, NY - The Islip Fire Department responded to a major gas leak reported on Thursday morning.
The leak was reported on Saint Louis Avenue between Sunrise Highway and Cleveland Street at about 11:51 a.m.

While waiting for National Grid to respond, the surrounding homes and businesses were evacuated. Residents were advised to avoid the area.
Firefighters cleared the scene by 12:40 p.m.
