The 40-year-old was acquitted on murder charges, the DA said. He will be sentenced next month.

CENTRAL ISLIP, NY - An Islip Terrace man was convicted last week for strangling his wife to death in May 2017, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney.

Steven Strub, 40, was convicted by a jury on Friday of second degree manslaughter for strangling his wife, 40-year-old Rachelle Weeks-Strub, of Centereach and causing her death in 2017, the DA said.

The jury found him not guilty of second degree murder.

He faces a maximum sentence of five to 15 years in prison and is expected to be sentenced on November 28.

Strub was arrested following his wife's death in Augus 2017. At one point he was charged with both second and first degree murder, facing a possible life sentence.

However, he was aquitted of both charges.

Last year, assistant district attorney Elizabeth Creighton told Newsday that the time of the murder the couple were apparently estranged when Strub went to his wife's apartment where he "strangled her, dragged her to another room, and had sex with her while she was dead or dying."

After DNA proved Creighton's claims to be true the charges were upgraded but Strub's attorney Christopher Cassar argued that the couple were still "in love" at the time and just living apart to work on their issues with drug addiction, claiming that Strub was innocent, Newsday reports.
