TOWN OF ISLIP, NY -Wedding bells are in the air! The Islip town board recently announced they will be waiving the town fee for a marriage license if at least one of the residents applying is an active duty member of the US Armed Forces.

Currently, marriage licenses come with a cost of $40. In August, New York State waived its portion of the fee totaling $22.50. This means that members of the military within the Town of Islip can get a marriage license at no cost.

Now the Islip Town Board is following suit after voting at the October Town Board meeting to waive the remaining $17.50. Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter, along with members of the Town Board, unanimously approved the resolution at the meeting.

Due to recent changes to New York State’s Domestic Relations Law, townships can now waive their portion of the fee.

"This is a small way of showing our appreciation to our servicemen and women, who give of themselves each and every day to ensure our freedom," Carpenter said.
