Married Couple Killed in Suffolk County Crash

A 75-year-old woman was behind the wheel of a car that crashed into a tree Tuesday afternoon, killing her and her husband.

BAY SHORE, NY - A husband and wife were killed when their car slammed into a tree in Bay Shore Tuesday afternoon, police said.

According to police, Travis Hairston, 75, of Bay Shore, was driving a 1999 Mercury Grand Marquis north on Fifth Avenue when her vehicle apparently left the roadway, crashed through a chain link fence and struck a tree on the lawn of a house at the northeast corner of Fifth Avenue and Hansen Street at about 4:10 p.m.

Hairston and her husband, Frank Hairston, 81,were transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, where they both died from their injuries, police said.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information about this crash to call the Third Squad at 631-854-8352.
