More than 100 Run for Miles of Hope 5K

Proceeds from the Islip Miles of Hope 5K are used to provide invaluable care and services to those in treatment for breast cancer.

From The Town of Islip: The inclement weather didn’t stop the more than 150 runners and walkers who turned out on Sunday, September 9th for the 4th Annual Islip Breast Cancer Coalition Miles of Hope 5K. Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter was joined by Islip Town Board members James O’Connor and Councilwoman Mary Kate Mullen, who took home First Place overall in the 5K.


“Congratulations to Gina Cacoperdo, President of the Islip Breast Cancer Coalition, its board members and volunteers, on another successful run. This run is a wonderful opportunity for the community to fundraise for those waging the brave battle against breast cancer,” said Supervisor Carpenter. Proceeds from the Islip Miles of Hope 5K are used to provide invaluable care and services to those in treatment for breast cancer and other women’s cancers.

Suffolk County Legislator Tom Cilmi emceed the event, paying special tribute to cancer survivors, and to those who lost their battle against the disease. On hand were Islip Breast Cancer Coalition Past President, Georgiana Crowley and Catherine Lemon, Vice President. Suffolk County Legislator Steve Flotteron also ran the race. The event concluded with an award ceremony recognizing all runners who placed in the race.
