Ramos has emphasized public education funding, property tax relief, civil rights and public safety during his time in office. He has highlighted increased state aid for school districts, including Brentwood, as a way to reduce pressure on local property taxpayers. He has also advocated for legislation addressing police accountability and restrictions on the use of certain public properties for federal immigration enforcement operations.

Barravecchio, 74, of Central Islip, is challenging Ramos for the Assembly seat on the Republican Party line. Newsday reported Oct. 21 that Barravecchio was not actively campaigning. Detailed information about his professional background and specific policy proposals was not independently available in the public candidate materials reviewed before Election Day.

Barravecchio also had not submitted responses to the League of Women Voters' VOTE411 candidate questionnaire, which asked candidates about their legislative priorities, climate change and other statewide issues.
