One Injured After Equipment Malfunction at East Islip Middle School

No students were in the cafeteria at the time of the equipment malfunction.

ISLIP TERRACE, NY - A man was injured after an equipment malfunction at East Islip Islip Middle School in Islip Terrace on Tuesday afternoon.

Police confirmed that they responded to the school on 100 Redmen Street for an adult male with an injury at 1:50 p.m.

School principal Mark Bernard released a letter to parents stating that while a custodian was operating a machine to clean the floors of the cafeteria, a battery ruptured, causing a loud noise.

According to the letter, no students were in the cafeteria at the time of the malfunction.

Police as well as the Islip Terrace Fire Department responded to the scene. The equipment was found to be safe but students were not allowed to enter the cafeteria for the rest of the day.
