Pedestrian Seriously Injured After Being Struck By Car

It's the second pedestrian to be struck by a car in the area over the weekend.

CENTRAL ISLIP, NY - A pedestrian was seriously injured after being struck by a car in Central Islip on Sunday night, according to Suffolk Police.

Frank Ferro, 37, of Brooklyn was walking across Suffolk Avenue, from north to south, at Hawthorne Street when he was struck by a 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe that was traveling eastbound on Suffolk Avenue at 9:40 p.m.

The driver, identified as 53-year-old Catherine Phillips, of Islip Terrace was not injured in the crash.

Ferro was transported by ambulance to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore for treatment of serious injuries, police said.

No criminality was reported.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Third Squad at 631-854-8352.

On Saturday, a pedestrian was seriously injured in a hit-and-run crash in the same area on Suffolk Avenue east of Lowell Avenue.
