PETA To Donate Donuts To Suffolk PD, In Honor of National Police Week
Suffolk PD will receive free vegan donuts, in thanks for the county's new Lost Pet Network.

SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY β Suffolk County Police are being recognized for their support to four-legged friends.
In honor of National Police Week, which is May 15 through May 21, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has dispatched dozens of vegan doughnuts from Doughology to the Suffolk County Sheriffβs Office in thanks for its new Lost Pet Network.
βThe Suffolk County Sheriffβs Office is pulling out all the stops to reunite lost dogs and cats with their families,β says PETA Senior Vice President Colleen OβBrien. βThese vegan doughnuts are PETAβs tasty way of thanking these officers for keeping an eye out for the smallest, most vulnerable Long Islanders.β

The new network will rush out alerts to deputies and on social media if registered animals are reported missing. It is the county's first-ever program to help find missing pets.
"As Suffolk County Sheriff my priority is keeping residents safe, and that extends to the four-legged members of our communities," said Sheriff Errol Toulon.

To help keep dogs and cats safe at home, PETA recommends that all animal companions be microchipped and outfitted with a collar and an identification tag and never be allowed to roam or be left outdoors unattended.
The organization is also sending vegan doughnuts this week to the Pueblo Police Department in Colorado, where an officer recently rescued a dog from drowning, and to the Flagler County Sheriffβs Office in Florida, where an employee recently adopted a dog who was seized after his former owner reportedly shot him in the face.
