Town of Islip Officials Warn Residents of Phone Scam

Town of Islip officials recently sent out an alert warning residents that there have been reports of a scam.

The scam, which always follows the same pattern, is aimed towards extorting money from senior residents.

A resident receives a telephone call that a grandchild is in trouble.

The caller says that the grandchild will be safe if cash or gift cards are secured and delivered to a nearby location in a very short time frame.

The seniors who have been able to reach their family members before delivering the money find that their grandchild is safe at home.

If you receive a suspicious telephone call, Town officials advise to call your local police precinct and report it to them.
