Town Of Islip Preparing For Third Winter Storm

Check out what you need to know before the storm hits the Town of Islip area on Monday night.

TOWN OF ISLIP, NY - Town of Islip officials are preparing for the winter storm expected to hit the area Monday and Tuesday.

A winter storm warning is in effect from 8 p.m. Monday night to 6 p.m. Tuesday night.

According to The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the storm carries the potential for 5 to 9 inches of snow accumulation.

Minor coastal flooding is also to be expected, and will coincide with tidal cycles.

Residents should expect strong winds in the range of 15-20 mph with gusts of 32 mph on Monday night, and winds of 20 to 24 mph with gusts of 39 mph on Tuesday.

Officials advise residents to exercise caution if planning to travel during this time.

As a result of the impending storm, town garbage collection will begin Tuesday at 5 a.m.

In addition, Southwest Airlines has cancelled some late Monday evening flights and all Tuesday flights at MacArthur Airport.

Southwest Airlines operations will resume Wednesday morning, March 14. Check with your airline carrier for up-to-the-minute information.

Fire Island Ferry freight and passenger service is suspended for Tuesday.
