Town Of Islip Sets Record For Most Boxes Of Food Donated

The town donated all the food collected as well as over 700 turkeys to families in need this Thanksgiving.

ISLIP, NY - The Town of Islip set a new record for the most boxes of food to be donated to families in need this Thanksgiving.

Recently, the town donated a total of 836 "Boxes of Love" and 751 turkeys to various agencies throughout the Town, who will then distribute those boxes and turkeys to families in need this holiday.

This year's count is nearly 300 more than last year.

Islip Food For Hope donated $20,000 to the Town for the purchase of turkeys and holiday essentials. Those funds, coupled with the generous donations of additional turkeys from various departments within the Town, set the new 2017 record.

Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter was joined by Town Councilman John C. Cochrane, Jr., Receiver of Taxes Alexis Weik, Thomas Owens, Commissioner of Parks and Recreation, Islip Food for Hope President, Liz Mayott and volunteers from the Town, at the distribution event Tuesday.

"This record is a testament to the generosity of our Town employees and Islip Food for Hope," Carpenter said "It's so very heartwarming to see the Town and the community come together to help those in need for Thanksgiving."
