Town Lights Cupola Pink For Breast Cancer Awareness Month
The Town Hall Cupola at 655 Main Street will be lit pink at dusk each evening for the month of October.

From The Town of Islip: Islip Town officials lit the Town Hall Cupola for the first time in the Town’s 335 history Monday evening, in recognition of October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The Cupola was illuminated in pink LED lights at 6 pm as local, state and county officials gathered with civic leaders, chamber leaders and breast cancer survivors to mark the beginning of a month-long awareness campaign dedicated to breast cancer prevention.
The Town Hall Cupola at 655 Main Street will be lit pink at dusk each evening for the month of October. The idea came about after Gina Cacoperdo, President of the Islip Breast Cancer Coalition approached Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter with the idea to light a Christmas tree pink in a Town Park. “I recalled the memory of the Dennison Building illuminated in pink during October while I was the Suffolk County Treasurer, and thought lighting the Cupola would be fitting here in the Town of Islip,” said Supervisor Angie Carpenter. “I hope that passersby will see the pink Cupola as a reminder to schedule their mammograms,” she added. “And that someday, pink lights will signify that a cure has been found,” she added.
Supervisor Carpenter was joined by Tom Owens, Commissioner Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs and DPW; Senator Phil Boyle; Suffolk County Legislator Steve Flotteron; Tom Ockers and Justin Jaycon from Good Samaritan Hospital; Donna Moravic, Eddie Fraser, Valerie Burger, Dr. Jack Ames and Donna Rayna from Northwell Health; Doris Kennedy, President of the Islip Chamber of Commerce; Gina Cacoperdo, President of the Islip Breast Cancer Coalition; representatives from the West Islip, Bay Shore/Brentwood Breast Cancer Coalition and breast cancer survivors and supporters from the community.
