Woman Charged In Fatal Hit-And-Run

The crash killed a 44-year-old Central Islip man early Sunday morning.

CENTRAL ISLIP, NY - A Central Islip woman was arrested for a hit-and-run crash that killed a man in Central Islip early Sunday morning, according to Suffolk Police.

Jose Lino Martinez, 44, of Central Islip was crossing Suffolk Avenue near Applegate Drive at 4:25 a.m. when he was struck by a car driving eastbound, which fled the scene, police said.

Martinez was transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore where he was pronounced dead.

Following an investigation, 33-year-old Vierka Batista-Coronado was arrested in connection to the incident on Sunday, police said.

She was charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death and will be held overnight for arraignment on Monday, police said.
