New York Hall Of Science Unveils Climate Week Events, Programming: See Here

QUEENS, NY — The New York Hall of Science (NYSCI) has announced a Climate Week lineup focused on how New York City infrastructure responds to storms, flooding, extreme heat and other weather events.

The programming marks five years since Hurricane Ida, which caused extensive damage to NYSCI after more than a million gallons of water entered the building through overflowing sewage drains.

Climate Week will run Sept. 20-27 during NYSCI's general hours of 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. NYSCI also offers free community hours on Fridays from 2 to 5 p.m.

Climate Week programming will include the Queens Climate Expo with Queens Borough President Donovan Richards Jr. on Friday, Sept. 25, from 2 to 5 p.m.

The family event will feature workshops on home energy and resilience, animals from the Alley Pond Environmental Center and a mobile library.

In addition, NYSCI's CityWorks exhibition explores infrastructure systems including transportation, water and wastewater, sanitation, construction and urban development.

Visitors can learn how stormwater systems are designed to handle heavy rainfall, how the city's sewer and drainage system manages floodwater and how parks and green spaces help reduce stormwater runoff.

Additional programming in the Design Lab will feature hands-on activities focused on emergency structures, biodiversity, sustainable city planning and recycling.
