2 NYPD Officers Shot, 1 Killed, In Richmond Hill, Officials Say
Det. Brian Simonsen was fatally shot during an apparent armed robbery in Richmond Hill Tuesday evening, according to officials.

RICHMOND HILL, QUEENS -- An NYPD detective was killed and a sergeant shot during an armed robbery in a Queens cell phone store, according to officials.
Det. Brian Simonsen, a 19-year NYPD veteran, was shot dead responding to robbery at a T Mobile store on Atlantic Avenue and 121st Street at about 6:15 p.m., officials said.
Sergeant Matthew Gorman was wounded as the cops exchanged fire with the alleged robbers, according to Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams.

"I know too well the uncertainty that every police officer takes into every shift," Adams said in a statement.
"May there be justice in the wake of this tragedy, and may we never forget Detective Simonsen.”

Both officers were rushed to Jamaica Hospital where Simonsen later died, police said.
