MTA Replaces 3 Elevators At This Queens Subway Station: See Where

QUEENS, NY — Three newly modernized elevators are now in service at the Jamaica-179 St F station, the MTA announced Friday, as part of ongoing accessibility and safety upgrades across the subway system.

The station’s three elevators include one connecting the street to the mezzanine, one serving the Manhattan-bound F platform and another connecting the mezzanine to the terminal. The station serves more than 13,000 riders each weekday.

The upgrades included new elevator cabs and equipment, modifications to the shafts and pits, and modernization of electrical and mechanical systems. The MTA also upgraded remote monitoring, fire alarms, intercoms and cameras to improve security and help crews respond more quickly to outages.

The Jamaica-179 St project marks the MTA’s 20th elevator replacement completed in 2026.

“MTA is completing elevator replacements at a record pace,” MTA Construction and Development President Jamie Torres-Springer said, adding that Jamaica riders can now expect “more reliable and secure elevators for years to come.”

The MTA currently has elevator replacement projects underway in Queens, Brooklyn, the Bronx and Manhattan.

The agency says there are now 161 fully accessible stations across the MTA, with 46 completed since 2020. Under its 2025-2029 Capital Plan, the MTA is investing nearly $7.1 billion in station accessibility, including making six stations newly ADA-accessible and modernizing 45 additional subway elevators.
