JAMAICA, QUEENS — The NYPD is boosting its police presence in Jamaica for the summer, starting Thursday.

The NYPD's 113th Precinct will get additional police officers during the summer as part of the department's "Summer All-Out" program, which temporarily reassigns cops to neighborhoods that have historically had high levels of violence.

The 113th Precinct serves the southeastern area of Jamaica, along with St. Albans, Hollis, Springfield Gardens, South Ozone Park, South Jamaica, Addisleigh Park and Locust Manor. It is the only Queens precinct in the 2019 Summer All-Out program.

There have been three murders in the precinct so far this year, compared to zero at this time last point, police data shows; grand larcenies have also increased.

Summer All-Out officers will attend one-day refresher courses on neighborhood policing and de-escalation techniques, according to the NYPD.

This is Summer All-Out's fifth year.

"New York City experienced reductions in both crime and violence during prior Summer All-Outs — and we look forward a similar outcome this year," Chief of Department Terence A. Monahan said.
