Pedestrian Dies In Queens After 2 Cars Hit Him: NYPD

Police arrested one of two drivers who fatally struck a man in Queens for driving without a license.

ROSEDALE, QUEENS — Police arrested a man for driving without a license after he and another driver fatally struck a pedestrian in Queens on Friday.

Rosedale resident Renford Tait, 62, was arrested on misdemeanor charges of driving unlicensed, failing to yield to a pedestrian and failing to exercise due care, according to police.

Tait was turning right off Brookville Boulevard and onto Sunrise Highway in Rosedale just after 10 p.m. on April 6 when he hit a pedestrian in the crosswalk, police said. The man fell to the ground, and then a driver turning left onto Sunrise also hit him.

Emergency responders rushed the pedestrian to Jamaica Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police arrested Tait on the scene for aggravated unlicensed driving, which applies to drivers whose license has been suspended or revoked, according to state law. It is not yet clear whether the second driver will face charges.

The NYPD's Collision Investigation Squad is investigating.
