Married Couples Make Up Majority Of Queens Homeowners, New Report Finds

Queens also had the city's highest share of married-couple family homeowners ages 35 to 64.

QUEENS, NY — Married-couple families account for nearly 53 percent of homeowners in Queens, tying Brooklyn for the second-highest share among New York City's boroughs, according to a report by PropertyShark.

Staten Island ranked first, with married-couple families making up 60.3% of homeowners.

Nonfamily owners represent 26.9% of Queens homeowners, while female-led family owners account for 14.2% and male-led family owners make up the remaining 6.4%.

Three Queens neighborhoods also ranked among the top 10 citywide for the highest percentage of female-led family homeownership. Brookville ranked fifth at 32.1%, followed by St. Albans at 31.5% and Springfield Gardens at 31.2%.

Citywide, married-couple families account for 50.8% of homeowners, compared with 31% for nonfamily owners, 12.7% for female-led families and 5.5% for male-led families.

Homeowners ages 35 to 64 make up the largest age group in Queens, accounting for 53.1% of homeowners. Residents 65 and older represent 39.9%, while those under 35 account for 7%.

Queens also had the city's highest share of married-couple family homeowners ages 35 to 64, at about 31%, according to the report.
