First Day of School Brings New Activities, New Friends
Four young girls look forward to a new school year.
Ali and April Sullo woke up early to get ready for the first day of school; they waited with great excitement at their Rosewood Avenue bus stop adorned in new back-to-school outfits.
Ali started the sixth grade at William T. Roger’s Middle School and although nervous about going to a new school, she was optimistic about the experience.
“I want to learn new things and make new friends, I’m nervous but I know I can do it,” said Ali.

She enjoys playing softball and has taken up the cello at her new school - her sister April enjoys modeling and dancing school. She was also headed off to a new school as a fourth grader at R.J.O. Intermediate School.
“I liked taking a tour of the school. I think it’s going to be really great and I want to try new stuff. This year I am trying the viola,” said the nine-year old.

Their mother Fran wasn’t ready for the back to school routine; she wished summer could last another month. A few blocks away the Cali children also readied for school, however, their mother Lisa, who works from home, felt it was time for routine.
“It was hard to get work done and keep the house clean and keep up with laundry when there were so many things to enjoy outdoors this summer,” said Cali.
The Cali girls also started new schools this year, Jessica is ten and started WTRMS and Camryn is nine and began her new school year at RJO.
When not at school Jessica sings and acts. This summer she performed her first main stage show, Carousel. Camryn is a competitive dancer at Encore Dance Academy in Kings Park and just began her first season with the KP Lady Knights U10 softball team.
When it comes to school supplies lists, both mothers agreed that the lists were much more manageable and affordable this year. Cali appreciated that the lists were available early so she could seek out items on sale.
All and all the first day of school was a big success for both families; all four girls came off their respective buses smiling.
