Moms Talk Q&A: What Do Additional School Budget Cuts Mean to Your Family?
School district looks at additional cuts to fill a possible $2.5 million budget gap.

It is that time of the year when school budgets are put under the microscope. This year could possibly be one of the most challenging that many districts across Long Island have faced. Kings Park School Board Trustee Marie Goldstein said this year was the toughest in terms of cuts that she has seen in her years as a trustee.
Currently the Kings Park School District must fill what looks to be a $2.5 million budget gap and is looking at the loss of programs, teachers and increases in class sizes.
The board stated at Tuesday evening’s budget workshop that all options were on the table and that additional cuts would have to be made.

Possible cuts include the eliminating three more elementary teacher spots, teacher cuts at the high school level, eliminating late and midday bus runs as well as cutting additional clubs and activities. Some audience members even questioned the sustainability of full day kindergarten.
