Police Release Details on Vehicle Involved in Fatal Central Islip Hit-and-Run

Man was struck and killed by a fleeing vehicle Sunday morning.

Suffolk police released details Tuesday on the vehicle they believe was involved in a fatal hit-and-run in Central Islip on Sunday morning.

Detectives believe the driver who fled the crash was driving a silver or grey 2014 or 2015 Jeep Cherokee, Limited or Sport Latitude edition. Police released the photos above of vehicles similar to the one suspected to be involved in the crash, which police believe sustained damage to the passenger side headlight and passenger side view mirror.

Lorenzo Fuentes, 64, was walking to work near Highland Road when he was struck and killed by the vehicle, police said.

Detectives are asking anyone who may have witnessed this crash or has any information about the incident to contact the Vehicular Crime Unit at 631-852-6555 or call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
