Resident Hurt in Nesconset Fire, Firefighters Save Cats

Fire broke out on Mayfair Road Saturday afternoon.

On Saturday at about 2:30 p.m., the Nesconset Fire Department was alerted for a reported house fire on Mayfair Road between Townline Road and Smithtown Boulevard.

Fire department units arrived on scene to find a large outside fire on the right side of 90 Mayfair Road which had extended into the home. The fire also extended to the neighboring house at 88 Mayfair Road.

The Nesconset fire chief called in assistance from numerous nearby fire departments such as Ronkonkoma, St. James, Smithtown, Hauppauge and Centereach. The homeowner from 88 Mayfair Road was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital to be treated for minor injuries. The fire was declared under control after an hour and a fire marshal was requested to the scene to investigate.

Fire department personnel removed numerous cats from within the house. Two of the cats were in cardiac arrest but thanks to the dedication of crews on the scene, they were both revived, according to St. James Fire Department.
