Smithtown Firefighters Free Driver After Crash With Garbage Truck

Accident occurred Saturday morning.

The Smithtown Fire Department came to the rescue of a trapped driver following a crash between a car and a garbage truck Saturday morning.

The accident occurred at Main Street and Karl Avenue around 6:30 a.m., according to Jeff Bressler, the fire department’s public information officer.

Firefighters from Smithtown Rescue 9 were able to remove the driver’s side door of the car and the top of the convertible in order to free the driver, Bressler wrote on the fire department’s website.

The driver was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital. Police told Patch on Sunday the driver suffered only minor injuries.
