Town Of Smithtown Holds Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Event
Here's what residents should know about the Town's upcoming event.
KINGS PARK, NY — The Town of Smithtown Department of Environment and Waterways is hosting its bi-annual Household Hazardous Waste event this Saturday. Residents are invited to bring items that are not permitted in regular curbside waste pickups for environmentally safe disposal, the Town said. Hazardous waste can be dropped off between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. Oct. 19 at the Municipal Services facility on Old Northport Road in Kings Park.
Toxic or hazardous items include antifreeze, pool chemicals, photo chemicals, old paints and paint remover, lighter fluid, adhesives, and herbicides. Residents are encouraged by the Town to avoid purchasing products labeled "Toxic" or "Hazardous" in order to proactively protect families and homes.
On April 13, the Town held its biggest bi-annual hazardous household waste event yet. Around 606 Smithtown households participated, safely disposing toxic items. The turnout resulted in over 20 tons of hazardous materials collected.
