Voters Say Yes to Roof Replacement at R.J.O.

Raindrops were falling on voters heads.

If you were at the gymnasium at R.J.O. on Tuesday you may have been influenced by Mother Nature to vote yes on Proposition #2. In fact, the evidence of its necessity might have hit you on the head as you cast your vote. The steady rain showed voters that indeed, the school roof is leaking.

Voters on Tuesday approved the expenditure of capital funds to replace the leaking roof at R.J.O. in a vote of 1971 to 736.  According to the district the roof had over 50 leaks and needed to be replaced to ensure a safe environment for the kids.

Lisa, a local Kings Park resident came out to vote in favor of the roof replacement. “The school needs a new roof. Taxes should go towards the kids,” she said

The money being used has no tax impact on residents. The state will reimburse the district for 41% of the cost for the roof over the next 15 years.

According to district superintendent Dr. Susan Agruso, work on the roof will begin immediately.
