The Mamaroneck police chief said the preliminary investigation found the officers acted within guidelines.

MAMARONECK, NY — A 2-year-old child who police tried to help is dead, and her mother who allegedly pulled a knife on officers is hospitalized after being shot Saturday in Mamaroneck. The cause of the child’s death is unknown pending an autopsy, according to a statement from the police.
Mamaroneck Police Chief Christopher S. Leahy said an investigation is being conducted by his department with the assistance of the Westchester County Department of Public Safety.
“Preliminary investigations have revealed the officers on scene acted within departmental guidelines and training,” he said in a statement, adding that it appeared to be an isolated incident and there was no continuing threat to the community.

Officers began life-saving measures on the chid and called for an ambulance.
Police then began searching the home and located the child’s 28-year-old mother, authorities said.
Leahy said she was asked numerous times to show her hands, after which she attacked the officers with a knife, injuring two of the officers.
Tasers were deployed, police said, but they failed to stop her. The woman was then shot by the police.
Leahy said four officers were taken to the hospital for evaluation and treatment. The injuries they sustained were not life-threatening.
