Thomas Paine Memorial Building

The program will begin with a reading of excerpts from the Declaration of Independence by students and a brief discussion with Paine scholars Gary Berton and Scott Cleary addressing Paine’s role during 1776 and the new insights to be gained from publication this year of six volumes of Paine’s Collected Writings. Several elected officials will receive a Thomas Paine Legacy Award certificate honoring their long-term support to the Paine historical sites in New Rochelle.The program will conclude with an imaginary dialogue between Thomas Paine and the late Jesse Jackson, bringing out principles they both promoted around democracy, civil rights, and equality. Following the program, conversations will continue outdoors on the Building grounds, weather permitting, with jazz music by the Brian Carter Quintet, and light refreshments.

Actors Conservatory Theatre (ACT) is a non-profit Westchester-based theatre company, voted Best of Westchester in 2018, 2019 and 2020. Founded in 1975, ACT is one of the oldest community theatre organizations in Westchester. ACT has presented over 140 mainstage productions, including classic and lesser-known musicals, comedies, and dramas. Each year, ACT’s Junior Troupe provides students in grades 5 through 12 the opportunity to perform in a musical production tuition free. The ACT Presents…Original Works series began in 2019.The series has featured an original screenplay; online monologues; and full length, one-act and short form plays.ACT has also conducted numerous acting workshops for children, beginner actors and experienced performers.
