Free lecture in Larchmont: Tuesday, March 10
At Home on the Sound presents:
The Afghan Solution - Lucy Morgan Edwards
Tuesday, March 10, 3:30 - 5:00 pm
Lucy Morgan Edwards will join us to discuss her book, The Afghan Solution. Ms. Edwards has been involved with the Af-Pak region since 1999. She lived in Afghanistan at the height of the Taliban, working for the UN on urban development projects in Kandahar (and having to escape across the desert in a taxi when the USS Cole was bombed by al Qaeda). She was then an election monitor at the first Loya Jirga (in 2002) and later a freelance journalist with the Economist and Daily Telegraph. Currently a researcher in Politics and International Relations at Exeter University, she wrote The Afghan Solution in order to illuminate to a western audience how the war could have been avoided, and to show how the decisions made by western policymakers (both the decisions and their effects were often witnessed first hand by the author) have led to the present situation.
