LARCHMONT-MAMARONECK, NY — Six local high school seniors were recognized by the Larchmont Mamaroneck Lions with 2026 High School Community Service Awards.
The annual honor that highlights charitable work and its impact on the community.
The recipients were Harrison Delaney of Rye Neck High School, Emilia Boccini of Blind Brook High School, Sofia Rangel, Leonardo Jimenez and Aitana Gomez of the Carver Center, and Ella Ray of Mamaroneck High School. According to the club, Sofia Rangel, Leonardo Jimenez and Aitana Gomez received their awards at the May 20 award event at the Carver Center. Harrison Delaney and Emilia Boccini were recognized at their high school award ceremonies in June, and Ella Ray was honored at the Larchmont Mamaroneck Lions lunch meeting on June 18 at Orienta Beach Club.
According to the club, awardees were chosen based on submitted essays describing their charitable work, its impact on the local community, and how community service affected them personally. The essays were rated on the breadth and depth of service and on how that work reflected the Lions motto, “We Serve.”
The Larchmont Mamaroneck Lions Selection Committee included Lina Pasquale, chair, Michael Nicoletta and Nancy Joselson. The three Carver Center students were selected for the honor by the Carver Center Board.
In comments included in the announcement, Lina Pasquale said, “Reading this year's essays was both inspiring and hopeful. These students have demonstrated that service is not simply about volunteering but also about recognizing others' needs, building meaningful relationships, and taking action to create positive change. Their humility and commitment to their communities embody the spirit of 'We Serve,' and give us great confidence in the next generation of civic leaders.”
The Larchmont Mamaroneck Lions said its mission is to support local service groups with funding, volunteers and advocacy by bringing community leaders together to determine needs, resources and solutions. The local club is part of Lions Clubs International, which the announcement described as the world’s largest service organization with more than 1.4 million members.
The group’s signature cause is vision and blindness, according to the announcement, along with hunger, the environment, diabetes, childhood cancer and youth. The club also said affordable housing is a local priority. More information about the organization is available at lmlionsclub.org.
