Mamaroneck Police Investigate Report Of Forcible Touching As Group Of Women Walked Home

The troubling incident happened about 1:20 a.m. on Sunday as the women from visiting a local night spot, according to cops.

MAMARONECK, NY — The sense of security was shattered for three women in a normally quiet Sound Shore village.

Police said that at about 1:20 a.m., three women were walking home after leaving a local establishment when an unknown man approached one of the women from behind and grabbed her. During the struggle, the suspect forced the victim to the ground and inappropriately touched her before fleeing after the victim's companions intervened, according to police.

The suspect was described as possibly a male in his early 20s, about 5-foot-10 with a slim build. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black sweatpants, with his face covered by a black cloth, according to police.

"While incidents such as this are rare, the Village of Mamaroneck Police Department encourages residents to remain aware of their surroundings, travel in groups whenever possible during late-night hours, stay in well-lit areas, and immediately report any suspicious persons or activity by calling 911," the VMPD said in a statement.

The Village of Mamaroneck Investigations Division is investigating the case and reviewing surveillance footage from the surrounding area. Detectives are asking anyone who may have seen the suspect or suspicious activity, or who may have surveillance or doorbell camera footage from Florence Street, Halstead Avenue, or the surrounding neighborhood between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. on July 26, to contact investigators.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact the Village of Mamaroneck Police Department Investigations Division at 914-777-1122, according to the release. "All callers may remain anonymous," the department said.
