On September 1st, Visiting Nurse Services in Westchester (VNSW), located in White Plains, showed their strong appreciation of their staff by having a delicious variety of ice cream and toppings from the Ice Cream Emergency! bus. This mobile unit isn't your ordinary ice cream truck; it is an exciting retro ice cream parlor on wheels offering a large variety of flavors and toppings. Additionally, there are several buses booking different engagements.
On this summer rainy day, the inclement weather didn't stop the White Plains staff of VNSW from enjoying the tastes of the Ice Cream Emergency bus. One by one, staff came onto the bus, stopped first at the ice cream counter and then moved onto the toppings, all done with big smiles.
"Our staff works hard all year round so this day of appreciation, along with such delicious ice cream, was certainly the way to go and close out the summer," said Diane Law, Acting CEO, Visiting Nursing Service in Westchester. "First we had a big lunch and then this ice cream event was surely the topper."
Originating in Oxford, Connecticut, Ice Cream Emergency! walk-in ice cream buses are seen throughout much of New England, south to New York State, New Jersey and southwest Florida. The vehicles are all decorated in strong emergency red on the outside, while having classic black and white checker floors on the inside. With counters that resemble the 1950s ice cream parlors, the inside walls contain historical iron-on patches from past American wars and various emergency units from around the country. There was no shortage of flavors and toppings so there was something for everyone.
