Tri-Municipal 9/11 Commemoration Will Be Held On 9/10 This Year

The town and village of Mamaroneck, Larchmont, and local first responders will gather at Memorial Park for the 25th annual remembrance.

MAMARONECK, NY — The Town of Mamaroneck, along with its neighboring municipalities, will once again host a special 9/11 anniversary memorial ceremony, but this year, the solemn occasion will be marked on 9/10.

The Town of Mamaroneck, the Village of Mamaroneck, and the Village of Larchmont will hold their annual Tri-Municipal September 11th Commemoration on Thursday, Sept. 10, at 5 p.m.

The ceremony will take place at Girl Scout Rock in Memorial Park, on Myrtle Boulevard, in Mamaroneck.

According to officials, this year's ceremony will be held on Sept. 10 because the area is marking the 25th anniversary of the events of Sept. 11, 2001, and local first responders requested the earlier date. Organizers said an increased number of commemorative events are being held throughout the area in recognition of that anniversary.

The annual event brings together first responders from the Town of Mamaroneck and the villages of Larchmont and Mamaroneck, along with veterans, clergy, public officials, local scouting troops, and residents. The ceremony is intended to remember those who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001.

The commemoration site also carries local significance. The event will be held at Girl Scout Rock, where the Sept. 11 memorial created by the Girl Scouts lists the names of Larchmont-Mamaroneck community members who were lost that day. The location is in Memorial Park on Myrtle Boulevard, between Chatsworth Avenue and Baldwin Avenue.

A new memorial was dedicated in honor of first responders from the Town of Mamaroneck whose service and selfless actions on Sept. 11, 2001, and in the days that followed contributed to 9/11-related illnesses and, ultimately, their deaths. The new memorial provides a permanent place to honor their service and sacrifice.

Residents who plan to attend can park for free in Parking Lot A on Myrtle Boulevard, across from Memorial Park, beginning at 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 10, subject to availability. All are welcome to attend and "gather together in a spirit of support and remembrance."
