Music in the Manor Opens Its Third Season October 18 with Young Artist Hong-Yu Hsien

Music in the Manor, St. John's chamber music concert series featuring world-class musicians in an intimate setting, opens its third season on Sunday, October 18, at 2 p.m. with a special performance by young organist and visual artist Hong-Yu Hsien.

Promoting emerging musicians is an important part of Music in the Manor's mission. The series seeks to give talented young artists the opportunity to perform for a live audience while providing the exposure, support and encouragement that are important as they pursue careers in music.

Hsien, a rising senior in the Juilliard Pre-College Division and at Pierrepont School in Westport, Connecticut, is an accomplished organist and visual artist. He is the winner of the 2026 L. Cameron Johnson Memorial Organ Competition for High School Students, has performed at Juilliard's Paul Hall, and was selected to participate in the Curtis Institute of Music Summer Organ Intensive. Hsien is also the founder of the 88 Keyboard China Concert Project, a nonprofit initiative that aims to bring 88 interactive concerts to underserved students in rural China.

For his Music in the Manor program, Hsien will present "Synesthesia!" featuring an organ recital with works by J.S. Bach, Jean Langlais and Nico Muhly. The concert will take place in the sanctuary of St. John's Church, where the historic stained-glass windows provide a distinctive setting for an intimate musical experience. An exhibit of Hsien's artwork will be on display in the Parish Hall.

St. John's Music Director Dr. Matthew Lewis is enthusiastic about making young artists an ongoing part of the series. "It is a joy for emerging musicians to be able to play in public. These performances are what they work for and dream about. I look forward to this being an ongoing part of Music in the Manor."

All are welcome. No tickets or reservations are required. A suggested donation of $20 will be collected at the door. A reception will follow the concert in the Parish Hall.

Established in 2024 by St. John's Music Director Dr. Matthew Lewis and the Rev. Lisa Mason in honor of Dr. Paul-Martin Maki, Emeritus Director of Music, the Music in the Manor concert series strives to bring world-class live chamber music to the greater Larchmont-Mamaroneck community in an intimate setting. The 2026-27 three-concert series will include two performances of all six of J.S. Bach's Brandenburg Concertos on New Year's Eve (NEW!) and New Year's Day and will close with a return performance by Trio Raconteur performing Schubert-The Piano Trios on May 2, 2027.
