From June 27th, to July 3rd, 15 Mamaroneck High School students travelled to San Antonio for FBLA's National Leadership Conference. FBLA stands for Future Business Leaders of America, the largest business career and technical student organization in the world. The national convention hosts over 13,000 students from 47 different states, US territories, and Canada. There, they compete in events that they previously qualified for at their State Leadership Conferences, while also participating in workshops, building their networking and leadership skills.
This year, the students who went represented Mamaroneck's chapter in seven different events including, Entrepreneurship, Introduction to FBLA, Introduction to Social Media Strategy, Journalism, Local Chapter Annual Business Report, Supply Chain Management, and Visual Design.
Attendees kicked off the competition with a block party on the evening of June 28th, with the convention officially starting on the 30th. During that day, students were able to practice their networking skills, meet new people and visit all of the stands at the expo hall, before ending the night off at the opening ceremony. The following two days were filled with competitions where students got to present their projects, or showcase their knowledge through a test. These days were also filled with workshops that taught various skills through interesting presentations. Workshops such as, "Dress for Success", or "Shark Tank FBLA: The Ultimate Pitch Showdown" kept students engaged while still teaching them about important topics.
The conference concluded on July 2nd, where all Mamaroneck students attended the awards ceremony to celebrate the winners of each competition. Henry Goldman, MHS rising sophomore, earned fifth place in his event, Journalism. This was a huge honor for the entire MHS FBLA community, as placing top ten nationally is not an easy feat.
Not only did students have a great time at the convention, they also had a lot of fun exploring downtown San Antonio, seeing the Alamo, and visiting the Tower of the Americas. This year's conference was a huge success and Mamaroneck FBLA is excited to see what comes next!
