NEW YORK — The Associated Press has projected that George Latimer will keep his seat in New York's 16th congressional district.
The first-term congressman defeated Republican Joe Cinquemani.
The Rye resident won his first term for the United States House of Representatives in 2024. He challenged incumbent U.S. Representative Jamaal Bowman in the Democratic primary.
The primary was at the time the most expensive House primary in U.S. history. Latimer received high-profile endorsements from former Secretary of State and former U.S. Senator Hillary Clinton, a resident of Chappaqua, and from longtime former U.S. representatives Eliot Engel.
Latimer defeated Bowman and went on to win the general election, defeating Republican Miriam Flisser.
