LARCHMONT, NY — Your annual chance to take literal steps towards building the community is here.
The two-mile fundraising walk for The Fuller Center for Housing of Greater New York City is scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday at Constitution Park in Larchmont. Organizers said the event, called Walk for Homes Now, has been sponsored for 20 years by St. Augustine's Church and is intended to raise awareness and money for the housing nonprofit's work.
The Fuller Center of Greater New Yrk has helped rehabilitate flood-damaged homes, built award-winning homes, and assisted seniors and veterans. The group has recently helped two more families pay off their interest-free mortgages and assisted fire victims from Mamaroneck on Lester Avenue to Mount Vernon and Yonkers.
"November is all about Homes," Fueller Center's Jim Killoran said. "The weather changes, the families plan to gather, but many are burdened with the challenges of affording to live in this county and in New York."
Killoran said it's the perfect time to think about unmet need in our communities and beyond.
"This month is also a time of celebrating our Vets and volunteers Friday and Sat. help to rehab an American Legion, Vets home away from their homes," Killoran said. "Join us. Become a dream maker. Support us building more homes, so New Yorkers can afford to live and future generations will have homes"
The group invites everyone to take part, including families with babies, dogs, students and corporate teams. If you can't make the walk on what promised to be a beautiful fall day, donate by texting WE BUILD to 44321.
